New Stadium

The proposal for the new University of North Texas football stadium has finally been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on Thursday, October 29th. This new stadium will be located off of Bonnie Brae by the athletic building where the annual bonfire is held.
A public groundbreaking ceremony will be held on November 21st before the UNT-Army game. This new stadium, which will replace 57-year-old Fouts Field, will be available for Mean Green to move into for the 2011 season.
UNT's new stadium will be the first collegiate football stadium to be designed by award-winning HKS inc. Architects who also designed the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. The university is hoping to obtain Gold LEED certification which is one of the highest levels of achievement. If recieved, UNT will have the first college stadium with a Gold LEED certification.
The new stadium is said to have space for about 30,000 fans along with designated seating for students in the end zone along with luxury suites, an amenity-filled club level, a Spirit Store, a corporate deck and a Touchdown Terrace, and increased tailgating space.
There are more plans for this new stadium than just football games. It will also serve all of North Texas as a place for outdoor concerts, community events, high school games, and band competitions.
